Structured student learning will be developed primarily through:
-
classroom lecture-discussion sessions
-
interactive computer demonstrations
-
hands-on computer exercises
-
reading assignments
-
written homework
-
written self-assessment
-
peer-assessment
-
weekly TASK performances
-
a midterm exam
-
a final exam
Unstructured, student-active learning is strongly encouraged, using
the interactive text as the hub of the learning environment to develop
student explorations involving:
-
visualizing to write
-
writing to learn
-
assessment as learning
-
collaborative learning
-
mathematical visualization
-
pattern recognition
-
guided discovery
-
rule formation
The success of this approach to learning depends crucially on the degree
to which the learner actively engages in reading and using the interactive
computer text. New material will usually be introduced on each lab day
via the interactive text. It is the responsibility of the learner
on these days to carefully read and work through the interactive text.
